Our Governors

Mission Statement

At Leigh St Mary’s C of E Primary School, our mission is to promote a collaborative partnership between students, parents, and staff. We aim to ignite a passion for learning and provide the highest quality education within a nurturing environment, enabling every child to realise their full potential.

Our governing body consists of individuals from within school and the broader community, offering a diverse range of skills and experiences. Our goal is to bring these valuable perspectives together to create a unified voice to guide and support and enable the school to run as effectively as possible.

Our Chair of Governors is Mr Ashley Turner

Working Together on Outcomes and Excellence

The school governing body holds specific core responsibilities.

Our role doesn’t involve managing the daily operations of the school; that is the job of the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team.

Core Governor Responsibilities

Set strategic direction

The governing body plays a key role in shaping the school's strategic direction. Collaborating with the headteacher, we establish aims and objectives while overseeing the school's overall development. This includes assessing and endorsing policies, targets, and priorities, and continually monitoring and evaluating goals and objectives.

Create robust accountability

The governing body plays a supportive role by challenging decisions made by the headteacher to ensure the best outcomes for students. Through rigorous questioning of significant decisions, particularly regarding the school's performance data, governors strive to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils.

Oversee the financial performance of the school

Governing bodies, in collaboration with the Head Teacher, oversee school finances, setting priorities and budget allocation, guided by the school's development plan, financial plan, and improvement goals. This strategic role ensures prudent financial management.

Governor Meetings

These committee groups play a vital role in ensuring that the governing body maintains a strategic focus on enhancing school performance, promoting its ongoing growth and progress. Our Governors attend numerous committee meetings across the board in order to maximise their impact within the role.

Structure

The governing body of Leigh St Mary’s C of E Primary School comprises co-opted Governors, including representatives from the local community, staff, and parents.
